My Man Sachin – Attack or get out!

23 January 2006 One Comment
One of the very few gifted cricketers he is; but it does not really mean that he can go on giving his wicket for very cheap runs. The pitch which seems to have a little bit for the bowlers, infact its very very little that the bowlers can extract from, has been batsmen paradise till Dravid and Laxman were batting. Now it seems Pakistan has a hold in the match.

When discussing with my friend, he said India is on to a follow on. One cannot say that in this kind of pitch and with the batting abilities such as Pathan, Dhoni, singh etc are on the bet for few more runs. Who knows a century from Dhoni takes the Indians some where near to the Pakistan’s mammoth 588.

When we describe and discuss about the pitch and how it plays, its always expected from the player of Sachin’s caliber to score some huge runs. After all, he is second down in the order just to fire when the top cylinders fail to.

He once again got out cheaply doing injustice to his batting ability and the people’s expectation from him. I have not seen how he batted for those 33 balls to score 14 which consisted of 3 fours. But surely, I would say that he is not playing is natural game anymore. He is trying to play more safe rather safeguard his wicket and wanted to go on to score 100’s or 200’s.
Before the TE problems, I have not seen him playing these number of Dot balls even when playing against contemporary THE BEST Glenn McGrath. What is happening to him is he is not playing his original game.

digging here and there and looking for short singles is not his game. He is a player who dictates the terms from the ball one. When you see him bat, you don’t get a feeling that he is as positive as before or as authoritative as he use to be.

When goes to bat these days One gets the feeling that if he survives for 30-40 runs or so, he can make it to big hundreds. What happened? We never doubted and debated these things in his pre TE periods. He was as safe as the WALL of India. Now he is as weak as DADA of India.

My humble suggestion to my favorite star is that, he has to play his natural game and the willow should start talking to the blowers from the ball one he is at the crease. Everybody including him knows how great player he is. I badly want to see my star back in his helm.
Sachin, it’s very simple. The options are very limited.

1. Attack the bowlers and tell them you are back again and staying in your prime still or

2. Just give a space for a youngster. Infact you can yourself suggest somebody you think who can really replace your slot in the team.

Even if the second option comes into play, I think we would not be at a great loss. The cheap scores Sachin is making these days, will be the score for the new entrant to gain his confidence and fine tune his batting. This helps India in finding a future prospect for India.

But having said all these, there is a open truth that Sachin will play for Team India at least till the 2007 World Cup. Infact we need him till such period, but in the best of forms. Remember, if Sourav is no god for the Indian Cricket then Sachin too. Performance should be the key.

Bill Gates may be the reason for Microsoft’s being in the world, but what he is if you hire him for your company is what counts.
